Balancing mobile ad yield and user experience

Evaluate ad monetization with exposure, session depth and retention in the same frame.

Higher impressions per user can lift short-term revenue while weakening the sessions that create future inventory. The useful question is not simply which placement earns most, but what happens before and after exposure.

Segment by format, placement, session depth and user tenure. Compare revenue per active user alongside session completion, next-day return and meaningful product actions. Where possible, use controlled tests instead of before-and-after comparisons.

Set guardrails before testing. A yield gain is only valuable when the movement in retention and experience remains acceptable to the business. Make those trade-offs explicit in the experiment brief.

Put the view to work

Choose one decision the analysis should inform, document the metric definitions and review the result with the people who own the action. That short loop is more valuable than adding another unowned report.
